Trade Bait: Who I want the Leafs to acquire

TRADE BAIT: One player I wouldn't mind the Leafs acquiring would be alternate captain of the Phoenix Coyotes, D Keith Yandle.

And, the Leafs NEED to make a trade for possibly a Top 6, or, if lucky, a Top 2 defenseman to help out Leafs captain D Dion Phaneuf.

Phaneuf is the Leafs best player by far. Underrated.

Phaneuf is one of the reasons why the team is so good this year. If it wasn't for Phaneuf, the Leafs would get killed.

Reimer and Scrivens are lucky to have a defenseman like Phaneuf.

The Leafs can even, if they can't get Yandle tomorrow, get a defender from Florida.

It looks like Florida is giving away some good defenseman.

But I would like to see a defenseman around the age of 24-33.

TradeCentre 2013 is on tomorrow on TSN at 8am ET/ 5am PT.

Trade deadline is Wednesday April 3rd at 3:01 PM ET/ 12:01 PM CST/ 11:01 PM PT

Thoughts On: Canucks-Stars Trade; Canucks acquiring Derek Roy

THOUGHTS ON: The Vancouver Canucks acquiring Derek Roy may have been the smartest move by Canucks' general manager Mike Gillis in a long time.

Remember last years' TradeCentre 2012, Gillis?

Last year, for Zack Kassian, the Canucks gave up outstanding rookie Cody Hodgson to the Buffalo Sabres. That was probably one of the worst trades (I) have ever seen.

At least this year Gillis did something smart.

The Canucks acquired Trade Bait forward Derek Roy. I actually thought the Maple Leafs would want him, but Vancouver NEEDS him going into the 2013 playoffs.

Don't do anything stupid, Gillis.

I think the Canucks won this trade because Derek Roy is still pretty young. He still has tons of fuel and around a decade more of hockey still in him.

Trade Rating: 9 out of 10

TradeCentre 2013: Canucks acquire Roy from Dallas; Jagr to Boston

TRADECENTRE 2013: The Vancouver Canucks might have wanted former Dallas Star F Derek Roy before last nights game, but this is an excellent trade for Vancouver, going into the playoffs.

Dallas is giving everyone away today.

The Stars also traded star forward Jaromir Jagr to the Boston Bruins.

Yes, Jagr is older, and is becoming a free agent this summer, but before he retires he must want to pull a Ray Lewis and win the Stanley Cup with Boston.

But I say Boston may have wanted Iginla more than Jagr. Maybe the Bruins wanted to show off to the Penguins that they have future hall of famer and former Penguin Jagr, but Iginla is still young and still has maybe around 130 goals still left in his career, and Jagr maybe has one more season until he retires because of his age.

But like Teemu Selanne, Jagr still has some gas left in him. Jagr has been leading the Stars since getting signed in July 2012.

Hope for more exciting trades to happen throughout the day and tomorrow.

THE TRADES:
Canucks Trade: D Kevin Connauton, 2013 2nd Round Pick
Stars Trade: F Derek Roy

Bruins Trade: F Lane MacDermid, F Cody Payne, Draft Pick
Stars Trade: F Jaromir Jagr

Lightning Trade: D Marc-Andre Bergeron
Hurricanes Trade: F Adam Hall, 2013 7th Round Pick

The Future: Who will become the Flames' captains?; Who they should trade

CALGARY, AB: The Calgary Flames will become the busiest team in the National Hockey League this coming off-season.

Rebuilding is the current chapter in the Flames' book.

What I think is that the Flames should acquire goalie Ben Bishop from Ottawa and sign him to a contract extension. Bishop has the potential to become an elite goaltender and the Flames have the chance to get him. The Flames really need help between the pipes and Ben Bishop would be a good idea.

Calgary's current back-up, Joey MacDonald, becomes a free agent this summer and I think the the Flames should sign several free agents this summer, including a back-up goaltender, a depth defenseman, and a depth centre.

With an important draft pick for this summers' draft, the Flames could draft Jonathon Drouin.

The Flames should also consider trading Lee Stempniak, Curtis Glencross, Miikka Kiprusoff and several others, like Cory Sarich.

But the Flames should keep Dennis Wideman, Danny Taylor, Alex Tanguay, Mike Cammallerri, Matt Stajan, Brian McGrattan, Mark Giodano and Jiri Hudler and Sven Baertschi.

The Flames should also name Mike Cammallerri captain, and name Tanguay and Hudler assistant captains this summer.

The recent prospects in recent trades could also help this team majorly in the future. It may look like an unfair trade, but always remember the future.

Plus, those picks, especially 1st rounders, could bring in currently unknown hall of famers.

But it is all class in Calgary, trading long-time captain Jarome Iginla to already-stacked Pittsburgh Penguins, just so he can get a cup.

But still, those prospects and that pick...

Trade Bait: Glencross to Senators for Flames' No.1 Goaltender?; predicting a possible future trade

TRADE BAIT: Well Glencross could become another Calgary Flame to leave, in the Calgary Fire Sale of 2013.

The Senators may want the forward from Calgary.

Curtis Glencross is actually an underrated forward. This year, in 31 games, Glencross has 14 goals.

Ben Bishop for Curtis Glencross?

Trust me, the Senators have three great goaltenders. The Senators admitted they want to trade Bishop so Lehner and Anderson could become the two main goaltenders in Ottawa.

The Flames can get possibly their No.1 goalie in this deal, and Bishop has the possibility of becoming an elite goaltender at a young age.

The future could be bright for Calgary if they acquire the tallest goaltender in NHL history, Ben Bishop.

Predicting The Trade:

Ottawa Trades: G Ben Bishop, 2013 5th round pick
Calgary Trades: F Curtis Glencross, 4th round pick

Four Straight: Oilers defeat Flames in Battle of Alberta; Go for playoff race

EDMONTON, AB: The April 1st, 2013 edition of the Battle of Alberta game ended in a 4-1 Edmonton win over Calgary.

This was the first one in a long while without Jarome.

Miikka Kiprusoff was pulled after allowing 3 goals on 6 shots. (3 GA, 3 SV, .600 SV%)

That may have been the last time Kiprusoff was in a Flames' jersey.

This game was also the first time in about 700 Flames games that Jay Bouwmeester didn't play, as Jay went to St. Louis (see our blog post for more details on the trade) right before the game started.

Justin Schultz was the first to score. Schultz would go on to have 1G and 2A.

Taylor Hall also scored one, finished the game with 1 goal and 1 assist. Ryan Jones would have a goal and an assist, and then Nail Yakupov would have a goal and an assist.

Jordan Eberle had an assist, so did Ryan Whitney.

The only one to score for the Calgary Flames was Brian McGrattan. McGrattan was traded to Calgary from Nashville just recently, Feb.28.

Oilers' Devan Dubynk finished the game saving 33 of 34 shots, .970 SV%

Three Stars:
-Devan Dubynk, Oilers (33 SV 34 SA .970%)
-Justin Schultz, Oilers (1 goal, 2 assists)
-Taylor Hall, Oilers (1 goal, 1 assist)

Notes:
-Oilers' Taylor Hall was noted NHL 3rd Star of the week)
-This game may have been Kiprusoff's last game in a Flames jersey
-Dubynk almost had his 2nd consecutive shutout

Trade Bait: Why I think the Leafs should pick up Kiprusoff despite recent statistics

TRADE BAIT: Despite tonight's game and recent statistics of Miikka Kiprusoff's, I think the Toronto Maple Leafs should trade for Miikka Kiprusoff.

Why?

Kiprusoff may not be doing the best this season, but he is still an elite goalie and has playoff experience. Meanwhile, Kiprusoff would be good if the following happens:

1.) What if Reimer was possibly injured, got an illness, etc., then you have an AHL goaltender in your crease for playoffs, risky.
2.) Reimer has bad luck in the playoffs. (Although could happen to Kipper too)
3.) He is a rookie, at 25, and Kipper, at 36, is 11 years older than Scrivens and Reimer. Could become a great leader.

It would also be nice to see Kiprusoff appear in a playoff game before he retires. The price for Kiprusoff isn't too big, as Calgary would most likely want picks or prospects. But they already acquired another goalie in the trade with the Blues on Monday, so they probably won't want anymore goaltenders, especially if they will draft one in June.

But in the meanwhile, it looks like Kiprusoff (may) or (may not) want to go to Toronto, where it looks like they will make the playoffs (finally, but knock on wood)...

Thoughts On: Flames Trading Bouwmeester

THOUGHTS: The rebuilding of the Calgary Flames, starring general manager Jay Feaster, mainly consists of trading Flames' veterans, and acquiring 2013 1st Round Picks. This is an underrated move, as Calgary has already 3 1st Round Picks for this years' NHL Draft.

If Flames continue to lose, the lottery could give them the chance to draft possibly D Seth Jones, F Nathan MacKinnon, or Jonathon Drouin.

"Ruin for Drouin?"

Calgary, Colorado, Florida and other bottom teams may be able to draft these young prospects if they continue to lose.

But back to the Bouwmeester-trade thoughts.

Jay Bouwmeester is an average defenseman, but is not a defender that Feaster wants on the teams' future roster. Other to-get-traded-players include F Curtis Glencross (supposedly talking with Ottawa), and G Miikka Kiprusoff (Talking with Toronto and one other unknown team).

It was smart to trade Bouwmeester.

The Flames will not win the cup in the next couple of years, but acquiring these prospects and picks are smart moves by Feaster, as these will help the team in the next 3-8 years.

Goodbye, Flames' vets, Kiprusoff may be next.

Trade Bait: Kiprusoff to Maple Leafs?; Predicting the possible trade

TRADE BAIT: The Toronto Maple Leafs have been granted permission to speak to Miikka Kiprusoff's agent about a possible trade for the Flames' veteran goalie.

Major fire sale going on in Calgary.

Since Iginla was traded to Pittsburgh, and Bouwmeester to St. Louis, another trade in the 2013 Calgary Flames Fire Sale might go on, with Kiprusoff having trade talks with Leafs' Dave Nonis.

The Toronto Maple Leafs were reportedly looking to add a veteran goaltender just in time for the 2013 NHL playoffs, as the Maple Leafs are on their pace for the playoffs for the first time since the 2003-04 playoffs.

Canucks' G Roberto Luongo and Flames' G Miikka Kiprusoff may be dealt to Toronto before Wednesday's trade deadline.

This is still a trade rumour, but Kiprusoff may be dealt, as the Flames have been getting some prospect goaltenders. There is also free agency this summer to find the Flames' future.

PREDICTING THE (POSSIBLE) TRADE:
Flames Trade: G Miikka Kiprusoff
Leafs Trade: 2013 1st Round Pick (conditional?)

I think the Flames are trying to stack up on 2013 1st Round Picks, getting some from Pittsburgh and St. Louis in recent trades.

TRADECENTRE 2013 IS ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 3RD ON TSN. STARTS AT 8AM ET/5AM PT

TradeCentre 2013: Flames Bouwmeester traded to Blues for first roundpick, prospects; Regehr to Kings

TRADECENTRE 2013: It wasn't too long until the Calgary Flames traded another veteran in their rebuilding of 2013. Just last week Jarome Iginla was traded to Pittsburgh, and just today D Jay Bouwmeester went to the St. Louis Blues for a 2013 1st Round Pick and two prospects, a goalie and a defenseman.

A couple days ago, the Blues did trade for D Jordan Leopold, from the Buffalo Sabres. An underrated defenseman, Leopold would serve on the second line of Defenseman.

Then 2 days later, the Blues trade for Flames' vet Boumeester. Bouwmeester served as trade bait for the past few weeks. It was obvious he would get traded, but it almost looked like he would go to the Maple Leafs, to help out D Dion Phaneuf on the blue line.

I really thought Bouwmeester would go to Toronto.

Another trade also went down this evening: Sabres D Robyn Regehr to the Los Angeles Kings, for two 2nd round picks.

THIS EVENING'S TRADES

St. Louis Trades: D Mark Cundari, G Rito Berra, 2013 1st Round Pick
Flames Trade: D Jay Bouwmeester

Los Angeles Trades: 2013 2nd Round Picks (2)
Buffalo Trades: D Robyn Regehr
