CALGARY, AB: The Calgary Flames will become the busiest team in the National Hockey League this coming off-season.
Rebuilding is the current chapter in the Flames' book.
What I think is that the Flames should acquire goalie Ben Bishop from Ottawa and sign him to a contract extension. Bishop has the potential to become an elite goaltender and the Flames have the chance to get him. The Flames really need help between the pipes and Ben Bishop would be a good idea.
Calgary's current back-up, Joey MacDonald, becomes a free agent this summer and I think the the Flames should sign several free agents this summer, including a back-up goaltender, a depth defenseman, and a depth centre.
With an important draft pick for this summers' draft, the Flames could draft Jonathon Drouin.
The Flames should also consider trading Lee Stempniak, Curtis Glencross, Miikka Kiprusoff and several others, like Cory Sarich.
But the Flames should keep Dennis Wideman, Danny Taylor, Alex Tanguay, Mike Cammallerri, Matt Stajan, Brian McGrattan, Mark Giodano and Jiri Hudler and Sven Baertschi.
The Flames should also name Mike Cammallerri captain, and name Tanguay and Hudler assistant captains this summer.
The recent prospects in recent trades could also help this team majorly in the future. It may look like an unfair trade, but always remember the future.
Plus, those picks, especially 1st rounders, could bring in currently unknown hall of famers.
But it is all class in Calgary, trading long-time captain Jarome Iginla to already-stacked Pittsburgh Penguins, just so he can get a cup.
But still, those prospects and that pick...
